Recording Technician: General Overview

Recording technicians may work in the music, television, advertising, journalism or other communications industry. The job duties of a recording technician include recording, mastering, mixing, sampling and preparing audio for use in a variety of formats, ranging from television newscasts to hit records. A background in musical theory, performance and composition is helpful when entering the industry. Most colleges and universities offer associate's and bachelor's degrees in areas such as including Musical Theory, Audio Technology, Sound Engineering and more. If you're interested in a career as a recording technician, business classes like finance, economics and marketing are also recommended, in addition to the core music and recording technology courses.
