Software and Media Applications Degrees: General Information
Computers must be loaded with programs and software in order to function. Word processors, web browsers, news readers and computer games are examples of software. The most common software and media applications career is computer programmer. Computer programmers create, debug and test software programs. Software and media applications developers use a variety of programming languages, including C, C++, Java, Assembler and others. Computer programmers usually hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, although some positions may require only an associate's degree or non-degree certificate. Managerial positions in computer software development, known as project managers within the industry, usually have to earn a master's degree in a computer or mathematics related discipline. Testers check programs for bugs and help programmers by offering feedback. These positions can be an excellent way to gain experience and enter the industry and may require only an associate's degree as a prerequisite.
