Nursing Administration and Management Degrees: General Info
Nurse managers and nursing administration professionals begin their careers by completing a bachelor's or associate's degree in Nursing and becoming a registered nurse. Other certification options are available, but are less common. After becoming familiar with the health care industry and the duties and responsibilities of nursing professionals, nurses with exceptional skills are often promoted to management positions. Some additional training in business, economics, finance and other fields may be required, but an additional degree is not often needed. As a nurse manager, these professionals are required to oversee financial and administrative tasks, manage teams of nurses and coordinate with doctors, other nurses, hospital administrators and other health care professionals on a variety of projects. Nurse managers may be able to transition into senior management and hospital administration positions by earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
