Forensic Technology and Forensic Science Degrees: General Info
Combining modern technology with the science behind criminal justice and forensics is the goal of a Forensic Technology and Science degree. Classes in the basics of math, biology, chemistry and law enforcement are studied along with forensic technigues, laboratory skills, use of forensic equipment and computer equipment. Crime scene investigation, evidence collection, preservation and interpretation, police procedures, law enforcement policies and criminal investigation are also studied. Those merely wishing to work as a forensic science lab technician may choose an associate degree program. Individuals wishing to do more than start out at the bottom of the ladder can earn the Bachelor of Science in Forensic Technology and Science degree. Those who already have a BS in biology or chemistry can bring a forensic science specialty to their career path with further education in the field.
Associate Degree Programs: General Info
Associate programs are two year degree programs devoted to a particular area of learning. Associate programs are often pursued by those wishing to enter into a certain career field but who do want to take the four years needed for a bachelor's degree. For example, those interested in law but not wanting to enroll in a graduate program to become a lawyer can earn an associate's degree. They then can become paralegals, legal assistants or office managers. An associate's degree can be earned by those who don't yet know what they want to do and often covers general studies which can transfer into a higher degree later.
