Manicurist and Nail Technician: General Information
Many spas, resorts, beauty salons and other cosmetology establishments offer manicures, pedicures and other nail services. Manicurists and nail technicians clean, rejuvenate, shape and beautify clients' nails. Most manicurists and nail techs complete either an associate's degree program at a community college or a more focused nail technician program at a cosmetology institute or other vocational institution. In these programs students study nail health and care, treatment for common nail ailments, nail trimming and shaping, coloring and more. Successful nail technicians also have excellent people skills and are excited about the profession. Nail technicians must be licensed in order to perform manicures and other procedures, due to the importance of health and hygiene for both clients and professionals.
