What is Medical Informatics?
Health informatics is a field that uses computer science, mathematics, statistics and information science to organize, search, secure and otherwise oversee the vast amounts of data produced by the modern health care industry. Health informatics professionals may help physicians search digitized patient charts, secure sensitive financial data and health records or coordinate transfers of information between hospitals. Most health informatics professionals hold at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a similar field. Many master's degree programs in computer or information science are offering health care specific courses to interested students. This is a rapidly growing field with excellent opportunities for technically skilled employees with an interest in health care.
