Mental Health Professionals: General Info
Having a healthy mind is as important to overall well-being as a healthy body. Health care providers who specialize in the mental health professions focus on helping patients cope with depression, addictions, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other mental health issues. Most therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists have completed a master's degree program in which they have studied the workings of the human brain and the most effective treatment and therapy options available to patients. Some entry level careers, often as assistants or aides to mental health professionals, may require only a GED or associate's degree in psychology, biology or a more health care specific field.
