Special Education Teacher: General Info
Special education teachers work with students that are mentally or physically disabled. These students need to be under the care and supervision of teachers who have been trained to handle their unique learning needs. Federal law requires that all students be provided a proper education and often this means streamlining special needs students into regular classrooms. Special education teachers work to help achieve these goals, whether the student is in a regular classroom, bedridden or in a class geared towards students with disabilities. Becoming a special education teacher is as challenging as it is rewarding. These teachers work in a variety of educational settings with ever changing situations. A teacher may have both physically and mentally disabled students in the same class. It requires determination, proper training, patience and a lot of heart to work with special needs students.
