Careers in HVAC Technology
HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. HVAC technicians install, repair, service, maintain and upgrade HVAC systems in private homes as well as in commercial and industrial settings. These professionals often hold an associate's degree in HVAC Technology where they have studied the tools and materials used in the industry, along with commonly used professional techniques. An internship or apprenticeship with an established professional is often required. HVAC technicians are often self employed, although some professionals work for companies that specialize in HVAC technologies. A skilled HVAC technician may earn over $20 per hour. Those in organized labor unions can expect higher salaries and increased benefits.
