Engineering Degrees: General Information
Engineering is an applied science field that draws upon knowledge from many different disciplines. Engineering associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs include courses on advanced mathematics, chemistry, physics, computer science, materials science, logic and more! Students learn how to apply each of these skills in a real world setting to solve real problems. Engineers are responsible for creating computers, building bridges, inventing new technologies, designing new electronics systems and much more. Many engineers find careers in business management or law (with extra career training and education) because their problem solving abilities and logical thinking skills makes them a fit for almost any career available.
Engineering Related Careers
Students with formal education and training in the engineering field of study may be qualified to enter the following career fields: engineering manager, system control operator, vehicle design, production assembler, global systems engineer, automation technology, digital systems engineer, gas turbine technician, computerized automation engineer, or software configuration manager.
Doctoral Degree Programs: General Information
Doctoral degree programs are the most advanced courses of study offered by most American universities. Some programs offer simultaneous master's and doctoral degrees, while others require students to complete a master's degree first. Other programs may be started directly following completion of the undergraduate degree. Doctoral degree programs are made up of courses, often called seminars, where topics are investigated at a much greater depth than in undergraduate classes. Many doctoral candidates teach undergraduate classes or assist professors in preparing for their classes. Most doctoral degree programs also require completion of a dissertation. A dissertation is an extended essay that requires extensive research and exhaustive preparation. In order to complete the program, the candidate must submit his or her dissertation to faculty members for review.
