Communications Technician: General Overview

Communications technicians install, maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade and otherwise service business communications networks and hardware. These may include computer networks, telephone networks and even some wireless communications networks. Most communications technicians hold at least an associate's or bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or a similar field. Certificate and other non-degree programs are available for those interested in entry-level positions. These programs teach students the most commonly used communications hardware and software and how to help businesses and other organizations take full advantage of it. Communications technicians must keep up with new technologies, as advancements are being developed every day.
