What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy is the use of physical and mental stimulation to help patients perform the tasks needed to perform well at their work and in their personal lives. Occupational therapists teach patients how to dress and clean themselves, solve problems logically, interact with others, make smart decisions and other essential functions. The goal of an occupational therapist is to help a patient to the point where they are able to live their lives and work with the same proficiency as those around them. The outlook for careers in occupational therapy is excellent, especially for those interested in working with geriatric patients. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, occupational therapists earn a median salary of over $60,000 a year.
