Duties of a Physical Therapy Aide
Licensed physical therapists work with patients who have suffered an athletic injury, are victims of physical trauma, have decreased mobility due to aging and others who are in need of physical rehabilitation. Physical therapy aides assist physical therapists in carrying out their treatment plans. They may help patients with exercises or treatment programs. Additional duties may include providing patients with medication or supplies for home use, massaging patients after exercise and transporting patients. Depending on the working conditions, which can range from hospital and clinical settings to in-home patient visits, duties may also include patient transport and general office clerical duties. As of May 2006, median earnings for physical therapy aides were over $41,000 annually, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
