Schools, hospitals, counseling centers, universities and even businesses hire counseling psychologists to help employees, patients or students cope with psychological stress and disorders. These institutions are looking for highly qualified individuals with a master's or doctorate degrees, although some positions will accept a bachelor's degree in General Counseling Psychology. Psychological counselors can also choose to enter into individual or group practice. The pay for psychologists can vary quite a bit with the lower 10% of all psychologists earning an average of $35,280, the top 10% earning $102,730 and the middle range averaging between $45,300 and $77,750 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov. The job outlook is excellent with job potential expected to grow faster than average for the next several years.
