Medical Assisting Degrees: General Info

Hospitals and other healthcare businesses require medical assisting services professionals to aid in their operations. Medical assistants may aid doctors, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists or alternative medicine practitioners. These careers generally do not require the same intensive training as the positions which they assist. While a doctor may spend seven to ten years or more studying and training, a medical assistant may only have to earn a one or two year associate's degree. According to payscale.com, certified medical assistants earn an average yearly salary of approximately $28,000.

Medical Assisting Career Possibilities

Students who earn a degree or diploma in the medical assisting field of study may be qualified to enter the following career fields: orthopedic assistant, hospital assistant, clinical assistant, obgyn technician, veterinary technician, occupational therapist technician, licensed pharmacy technician, allergy technologist, ambulance driver, physical therapy assistant, and oncology assistant.
